samai-czasopismo-on-linePeer review policy

SAMAI does not accept texts (both articles and book reviews) which had been published elsewhere prior to their submission to SAMAI. This principle applies also to the situation in which the principal contents of a paper, i.e. the main research questions, arguments and conclusions have been rephrased without a substantial change in the line of argument. SAMAI cannot accept papers which do not fit its chronological and geographic profile.

Following submission, an article is assessed by the editors who decide whether it should be declined or sent for double-blind peer-review by specialist academic reviewers. The editors make sure that there is no conflict of interests between the author and the peer reviewers. If the reviewers express contradictory opinions, a third review may be requested by the editors. In this situation the decision as to the acceptance of the article is made upon the third review. Book reviews submitted to SAMAI are not subject to peer review process.

The peer reviewers are expected to pay attention to:

  • the academic nature of a paper and the appropriate methodology applied by its author,
  • original and innovative nature of a paper (although SAMAI accepts also polemical and survey papers),
  • clarity of the paper and accurate arguments used in it,
  • the exhaustive character of the paper, state of the art, proper usage of historical evidence,
  • adherence to editorial principles of SAMAI (in accordance with the guidelines for contributors).

A peer review should end with conclusion to reject a paper or to accept it:

  • as submitted,
  • subject to revisions, either minor or substantial; if the second is the case, the re-submitted paper will be reviewed again.
